  • American woman is 5' 4" tall and weighs 164 pounds (BMI of 28.1).
  • American model is 5' 11" tall and weighs 117 pounds (BMI of 16.3).
  • French woman is 5' 3" tall and weighs 138 pounds (BMI of 24.4).
  • Canadian woman is 5' 3.4" and 163 pounds (BMI of 28.5).

Facts...
  • 20% of people with serious eating disorders die.
  • Only 60% of treated anorexics make a full recovery. 20% make a partial recovery, meaning they may be able to hold a job and some superficial relationships, but they are still fixated on food and weight. Those remain underweight and may abuse laxatives or diet pills. The other 20% stay dangerously underweight; they are the ones who are seen frequently in the ER, mental health clinics, and ED treatment programs.
  • 10% of anoretics are male.
  • 1-5% of all female adolescents and young women are anorexic.
  • The average age of onset is 17.
  • 40-60% of high school girls diet.
  • 50% of girls ages 13 to 15 believe they are overweight.
  • 80% of 13 year-old girls have dieted.

  • 50% of individuals who are treated for an ED are given an EDNOS diagnosis.
  • 77% of people report the duration of their ED was 1-15 years.

  2. Those weights are crazy. I don't understand. I always thought I was in the high-to-normal range, but compared to those statistics I've got a great weight.
